Barque Eagle Division History

The Barque Eagle Division was founded in 1972 by a group of Naval Reservists from the Reserve Center formerly located in Hartford where the Charter Oak Bridge now stands. In January of 1973, the Barque Eagle Division was officially recognized as a unit of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps. The unit remained in Hartford until 1986, when the Reserve Center relocated to Plainville.

The Division was named after USCGC Eagle, the Coast Guard tall ship home ported at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. Since the founding of the unit, our cadets have sailed on her decks, climbed her masts, and navigated her to many ports on the east coast. We will continue to foster a friendship with our namesake and are always seeking opportunities for our cadets to sail on her again.

Throughout our proud history, our cadets have traveled from New Haven to Bermuda and Newport to Japan. From carriers to destroyers, frigates to submarines, air stations to cutters, Barque Eagle Division cadets have represented the Central Connecticut area all over the world. Cadets continue to have outstanding training opportunities that take them across the country and around the world. From learning how to fly a plane to standing a helm watch on a Navy or Coast Guard ship, our cadets will always have exceptional experiences that can only happen in the USNSCC.
